Old plug Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 OK themodel number on the frame is 080009/34. Now I googles that and come up with different models. but nothing that looks exactly like that. All. I can remember is when I bought it at Pro bass in springfield it was all they had. Because it was on the display rack I ask for one. The guy said that was it there would not be more.
Old plug Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Wayne...... I talked to a friend about this reel this morning. He owns a repair shop. He has repaired and service thousands upon thousands of reels over the years. He has never seen one and had the same trouble matching it up with the plate numbers. He thinks it was made in some kind of special group for the purposes of presentation or something on that order. I have sent a E mail to the Garcia museum about it. So whatever it is, There are very few of them in existence. I am not interested in selling it or making any money out of it. It will be on my rod where it belongs. It is comparable almost in size to some of the new reels like the black max. Very sweet little reel.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I wonder if it could have been a special order for Bass Pro. Is it push button or thumb bar? I'm like you, I have a real soft spot for the old Abu's. Never cared that much for the newer models, but I haven't had a lot of experience with them either. Wouldn't mind seeing the right side. The level wind is certainly standard Abu. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Old plug Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 The handle has ! been replaced. I wore holes. thought the grips on the old one.
Old plug Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 The handle has been changed. i wore out the grips on the original one.
Old plug Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 I need to add my wife has always been anything but understanding about buying fishing tackle. And I myself have always been a bit fugal. I like the old reels. They were easy to work on. I trusted the old tackle better than the new in most cases. But Lack of money had a lot ot do with it. ANYWAY i walked up to the counter and seen thiis reel setting there and I fell in love. I was going to buy it even if it caused a divorce. I thought the price was going to way up. Looked down on the plate and it said I think $49 dollars. So I bought it and it has even out preformed some of my other Garcia's. It was made in Sweden. I use 10 and 12 lb test on it. It is as smooth today as it always has been. Back in the day I removed the pads on the centrifuge brake to make it faster. I just put them back on a couple of weeks ago because I can not longer deal with that much speed in a reel. It feels very comfortable in your hand. I tell you Wayne if Garcia started making these thing again I just got to wonder how much they would fetch
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I've always been particular about my casting reels. I went from the Abu's to Diawa Z's and Shimano 100B's. The Diawa is a better reel for me throwing the heavier stuff, but the little Shimano's shine with the light stuff on the right rod. I have no patience with a reel that backlashes, none. I've picked up a couple of other brands over the years and they just didn't Pan out. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
