Members jibro Posted June 6, 2014 Members Posted June 6, 2014 i only know of 2 and i dont know if they are fishable or what. Joachim creek which looks like you need to float from what i can see of it from 55. Little Mermac i think is what i drive over going down 30 to get to red horse. again not sure if its worth fishing and if so how can i access it. where else could one find a creek that i could spend the day wandering up and down catching fish? looking for an adventure this weekend since we have to bail on our Jacks Fork trip SG
Smalliebigs Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Man I know of a ton of creeks that hold fish but, not to sound like a dick the knowledge acquired on these creeks took years of walking/wading/exploring. I really doubt anyone is gonna give you a creek or a spot to go to, they are just too precious and fragile. You have to do the dirty and truly fun work on your own of finding the best creeks that hold fish. I will tell you Joachim has very limited access and the further you get to the Mississippi it gets primarily rough fish. Little Meramec is nice but, has even less access than Joachim and the landowners are not very friendly from my experience....be careful both places. I have been chased out of the Little Meramec by some very pissed off people.....wouldn't want to do that again. The further out you go the better some of the creek become, the best thing about creeks is just what you said wandering/exploring and the fact that they are all soo different from one to the next........diverse and tranquil....hopefully. If my J Fork trip was blown up I would go do the upper, upper Big Piney, there is a little hole up there I have been longing to get back to......it haunts me.

People dont want their fishing spots blown up or poached, I get it. My problem is i dont even know where to get started here and i certainly dont want to piss any land owners off by wandering somewhere i shouldn't have. Sure i coudl just go drive down the road hop out of the car over any bridge over any creek and jump in there. But again whether they hold fish and if i should be there are not are 2 concerns. SG

MOsmallies Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Pick up a Delorme Missouri Atlas and Gazetteer..... It'll give you some public access points and roads you can try accessing from. If it's not a public access, try to find a house nearby to ask for permission. That's what I did and I've learned a ton. If you have a weekend to kill, pick an area of the state that the forecast looks good for and has several streams nearby that you could try. Lots of trial and error, but when you find one of those gems it makes it even better.
