Hook is on the big side. It will fish better with a #2 or #1 hook.

That's kinda what I figured from what I've read. I bought what I could find though. If it. Becomes something I do on a regular basis I'll probably make a mold and pour my own. We will see.

For right now that's the plan! With the water in the bushes though a Ned experiment will have to wait.

Not necessarily. We caught them flipping it in 2011. Good brown fish. Also very good out in front of the bushes.

I agree. The front of the bushes would be a great place to start with it. You may get hung up occasionally going up into the bushes but it's worth it.

I don't mean to say it won't work. I do mean tough that a jig or paca craw would be better. Heavier hook, line, rod etc etc. all better for flipping bushes. Perhaps a cut stick bait in a heavier head would be ok but that's not a bed setup so it really doesn't count.

I added wire weed guards to the heads I make and it works well in the bushes & brush. Ken at Sport Boats in Shell Knob has them.

BP used to sell a clearish plastic guard that had a hole in one end to slide onto the jig and very small hole/slot on the other end to put the hook point into. These made any jig weedless.

It's more the hook size and diameter I'd be worried about. If I pour my own I'll likely make a hole in the head for thick flourocarbon to be used as a weedguard. Maybe two holes so I can make a loop.
