Sam Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Is anybody catching any white bass, or better yet, seeing them busting into baitfish on top? I love "chasing the boils", and it seems like it's getting about time for that. Thanks.
Sam Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Wow, 130 views and no reply. I'll bump this up to the top one time, but I'm starting to suspect no one is seeing/catching any white bass. :>)
Cindyjo Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Yes, they were boiling last night. Picked up 4. They never stayed long in any spot so I could only pick up 1 at a time. I have noticed the shad population is considerably less than last year. Educated guess would be the shad population is down at least 50%. I'm confident with these numbers since I watch the side sonar most of the time I'm out.

We are still catching K's in less than 20', full of craws, and very few shad to be found. When we are finding shad, there tend to be fish feeding (but no whites so far) all around them, but not necessarily on them. At a guess the whites will be deep, working very the deep schools of shad.
Members dougdean Posted June 12, 2014 Members Posted June 12, 2014 Wife caught one Tuesday trolling a white spoon in front of the Dam. Nice 2 lbs. Looked like alot of them on the fish finder but only one took the spoon.
edwin Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 We were out skiing Monday morning on the James between pt 10 and the island, lots of whites boiling up. Once everyone had the sets they wanted, we high-tailed it back to the dock to grab a rod and topwater. I'm happy that I gave the Daiwa Fuego some love over the winter, as it was up to the task of casting a country mile with a short 6' rod. I know, I know...seeing someone fishing off the swim platform of the Malibu isn't what's cool here, but the wife and kids had a blast. I would cast to the boil, hand the rod over, let the others give the Sammy a couple jerks and the fight was on. Fantastic sized whites definitely straightened out a few Daichi Deathtrap hooks My wife after setting the hook Fight's almost over The reward! My youngest fighting a magnum white She was jazzed After they had enough fun, I even got to land one myself. Great time "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
powerdive Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Great pics! (And as an old Wisconsin boy, love the shorts!)

Members AAD Posted June 12, 2014 Members Posted June 12, 2014 Watched Pete's weekly report (from 6/11) and he said he came across a large amount of whites the other day. Appears they are getting fired up, which is a good thing....
Champ188 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Glad you got into the whites, Edwin. Nothing but fun to be had there, especially when the entire family gets in on the action.
