Where To Stay at Maramac

Hey Guys

Robbie and I are looking for a place to practice in between our trips to taney. Maramac is only 90 minutes away. We avoided it during the season because of the crowds. From what I hear, C&R season is a totally different experience.

Any suggestions on places to stay. We are looking for soemthing close and something with internet access.

I'd say somewhere in St. James would be your best bet. I'm not really familiar with the town, but driving through, I've noticed some motels along the way.

There are lots of motels up by the highway, but not much down by the park. If your looking for something nicer, I'd stay at Windrush or Westover Farms. Both have excellent accomodations and great trout fishing. Cheers.

If you are going that far, why not go a little farther to Montauk and the upper Current River. Better Fly fishing by far in the river and the park during C&R season. You can camp in the park or stay at a motel in Salem or Licking. Or you could split the difference and stay in Salem and drive to either Montauk or Meramec. Salem is almost halfway between them.

LMW,Go to www.missouritrout.com and try maramac springs links.That lost creek is nice stayed there once seems like it was about $75 a night.It was worth it and you can't get any closer without staying in the park.Don't know about internet access though.Also Rolla is only 10 miles away surely with all the motels there you can find inter access.Finns motel is right off the hwy at St. James [sw corner of hwy 8 and hwy 44] and it's the cheapest place that I know of seems like it was $25-$30 the last time I stayed.Whoops,I'm showing my tendencies to stay at cheap spots so I can have more money to spend on cheap bait

Is the lodge or the cabins open at Montauk during C&R

I believe the Lodge is open year round.

Also, try Reed's Cabins outside of the park also.

personal preferance, but IMO, Montauk is much more enjoyable than Meramec Springs. It is a small stream w/ mostly free flowing sections, unlike Meramec springs which is darn up into pools.

However, if accessibility is an issue. Meramec springs is more accessible.

My 2 cents.

You should be able to access the cabins in the state park through the MODNR website.

Being from St Louis area, we fish Meramac Springs about once a week all year, between trips to taney. When we stay overnight we always stay at either the Comfort Inn at St James, or the Amerihost in rolla. It only takes a little while to get to the park from town, and they are friendly with all the amenities you need like internet access. We usually just drive down for the day and return home in the evening, though during the school year, as I have a daughter in elementary school. PM me sometime, and I will fill you in on all the good places to eat, stay, and play in that area from a non-local.

Hope to see you there soon, we were just there yesterday...lots of fat rainbows right now, lots of bites, too.
