Members Aleutian06 Posted June 23, 2014 Members Posted June 23, 2014 How much to paint and re gel coat a 20' shawnee?
fishinwrench Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Gel coat is actually the first compound that goes into the mold when a hull/cap is formed. Anything sprayed on over the color on a refinish job is simply a "clear coat" which is alot softer, thinner, and less "clear".
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 They saying in the boat building business is that if you're building a glass boat the first thing you do is paint it. For others you lay the keel. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Aleutian06 Posted June 23, 2014 Author Members Posted June 23, 2014 Thanks! What should it cost to do a new clear coat on a 20' shawnee?
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Just a thought, but if a clear coat would work are you trying to revive a color? Often times a lot of elbow grease with a soft abrasive, like Meguiars or Bar Keepers friend will do wonders. follow it with hard wax. I suspect you will have to call a fiberglass boat repair shop to get a price. Don't know where you live so I can't say where one is. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
