Members Hellac Posted July 10, 2014 Members Posted July 10, 2014 Are drum any good to eat? I have never kept one, but I seem to be catching more than a few lately. Thought I would check here to see if anyone likes them.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Yes they are very good FRESH after fresh the meat turns to mush and taste is gone. But same day or overnight in the fridge then cooked they are very good. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Hunter91 Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I second F & F. Catch the occasional one bottom bouncing or trolling. Not bad. But don't freeze them.
shaker Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I have a buddy that says they are excellent smoked. RB
shaker Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 And I just noticed that I'm a "freshwater drum"? Don't know if that's good or bad? RB
gramps50 Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 We use to catch them in the Gasconade and would eat them. So I would have to say yes catch a few and have a fish fry.
Members Hellac Posted July 11, 2014 Author Members Posted July 11, 2014 Sounds good - I will be keeping a couple this weekend and try them out. Thanks.
shaker Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Let us know how they taste Good, Bad, or Worse? Grilled with enough salt, Cajun spice, and alcohol and HUNGRY anything taste good just saying! RB
5bites Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I tried one. I don't remember hating it. I did hate filleting it though. It just looked weird. Keep in mind I was already wormy just for the fact I was cleaning a drum. To eat.
