Quillback Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I was looking at the AGFC weekly newsletter which contains fish stocking information for June. They stocked 9,800 walleye fingerlings in Lake Fort Smith. Hard to know how it will turn out, but something you walleye chasers may want to keep in the back of your mind. Beaver received 166,945 striper fingerlings.
Guest Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Lake Fort Smith is a good choice for walleye. good for them. I fished Shepherd Springs almost exclusively back in college. Quill, have you fished there? When they merged the 2 lakes, they also buoyed off the dam area. I sure wish they would allow us to fish closer to the dam, its about a 1/2mile from there to the buoys. That being such a small lake that its cutting off a good percentage of the fishing area.
Quillback Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 I fished that lake about 4 years ago one day. Caught a bunch of small spotted bass and that was it. I've been meaning to go back one of these days, just haven't done it. Lots of deep, flooded timber on the east side of the lake, sure looks fishy.
J-Doc Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 This could be a good thing. It's such a beautiful lake. And NO WAKE BOATS!! LOL Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. J-Doc Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I went last year on Memorial Day and fished the south portion for bass for most of the trip. Only a bite. Fished the north end and found a lot of crappie. It is new water so it needs to be dissected in a few trips to figure it out. Now that I have side scan........well the poor suckers don't stand a chance. Lol. Reports are, nice fishing if you get lucky. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. Quillback Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 I need to get down there and check it out.
Guest Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 We did really good on kentuckys & largemouth out there. Deep rocky banks & offshore flats up the lake. I had a magic stump that was 200 yards off shore when the lake was low. We caught 150+ bass off that single stump between November/December 2002. crankbaits & finesse jigs Since they combined the lakes, it lowered the level of shepherd springs, thus ruining the good mud flats. The topwater bite was stupid on those flats back then.
Members BIGBASSDAVEY Posted July 17, 2014 Members Posted July 17, 2014 I've only been there twice but it does have a 6 lber in it. Only keeper I caught that day. caught 3 keeper kentuckys the following Saturday
