Fly Fishing For Bass

I reacentley got a fly rod and has some flys that came with it and I am really interested bass fishing with my fly rod and maybe some blue gill and google eye also is there any good rivers near springfield or in the south west missouri that are good rivers for a beginner to learn on and catch some?

Any of them. The James is perfect.

What kind of flys should I use? I got some small ones that came with the fly rod. And we're should I cast at when I'm fishing for bass and blue gill and small mouth

Wooly Buggers - white, black, olive, brown, yellow

Clousers - tan/white, chartreuse/white, olive/white

Poppers - black, white, yellow (preferably a gurgler)

That will get you started.

Where to fish? Hmmmmmm....everywhere. Yeah it's a little more complicated than that, but it's not hard. Fish what looks good to you. pools, big rocks, a weedline with moving water in front at the right depth. The head of a big pool, the tail of a big pool. Root wads, bridge pilings. Put on a wooly, get out there and cast to some good looking spots and you'll get it figured out. Keep your flies on the small side at this point so you keep your catch rate up for awhile, keep your interest.

The James and Finley are both good for topwaters catching Bass. The big pool just down from where the Finley pours into the James is usually a good place to wade and cast poppers for Bass. Did that last night.

Of course. Nothing big but a couple of decent Smallies and one bigger Spot. Also caught a rock bass on a popper - that doesn't happen everyday.

I've been fishing down in that hole some lately. Did you catch any white bass? My son caught 4 a few days ago.
