gramps50 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 When fishing at some of the local lakes/ponds the bugs try and carry you away. Spray works sometimes works, guess it might be how thick I spray it on. I kept seeing the Thermacell every time I went to the local sporting goods store to restock my fishing equipment. Decided to do some research and found the Thermacell was getting good reviews. So on the way to fish last night I stopped and picked one up. About dusk the little black biting nats and mosquitos starting showing up so I fired up the therm a cell and set it under my stool. After a short time the little critters were leaving me alone for the most part. They guy I was fishing with came over complaining about the bugs. Told him they weren't bothering me, I was using my new Thermacell. He started fishing about 3-4' to my right after a short time he noticed that on his left side the bugs weren't bothering him and not as bad on his right as before. This was just the first test but I was very happy with the results. Only time will tell but I think I made a good purchase. Bass Yakker 1
Guest Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Ive been using them since 2006, they're one of the greatest achievements of mankind. We visited family near the Mississippi River a few years back, This motel was surrounded by flooded rice fields on 3 sides. My wife rolled down the window not knowing the consequences. I look over & see mosquitos streaming into the car, I yelled roll up that window. It was too late, there were hundreds of them in our car. She has never witnesses anything like this, so I told her to go into the motel room. I fired up 2 thermacells & turned the AC on blast. I put 1 thermacell in the front floor board & 1 in the back windshield, then cracked the windows. You could see them flying back out of the cracked windows. It was a pretty awesome sight. I use them for hunting, fishing, camping, back porch sitting, anything where bugs are present.
Feathers and Fins Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Never leave home without it, I might leave the credit cards and wife but not my thermacell. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 That's quite a story TrophyFishR, I assume your wife didn't roll the window down again. I also have the portable model. I've been considering a lantern for the porch. Home Depot seems to be the easiest place for refills here at a decent price? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Yeah, she wont get out of the car after dark if were over in that part of the country. Shes terrified of them. She didnt know what they were at the time, bc she had never seen flocks of large mosquitos. She tells everybody about the mosquitos in eastern Arkansas when people talk about how "bad" the mosquitos are in the Ozarks. (they have no idea) also, we dont stay at motels with outside doors anymore, it has to be interior doors. I couldnt help but laugh, bc I grew up near a rice field.
gramps50 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 I saw some YouTube videos on how to refill the butane but without pads that doesn't do much good. There is also a video about using an ARS pad which is a little smaller but claims to last just as long. The best price I've found so far has been $19.99 for the value pack.
