I caught one small mouth about 14in right by the bank as I was fixi to take the lure out or the water and I caugh some blue gill and green sunfish. And one google eye. They we're a caught on a small red fake minnow. I released everything I caught. Tight lines everyone

We just pulled out. Great evening of fishing. I caught 2 descent small mouths, 10 or so goggle eye, and countless perch. My brother caught some smallmouth, goggle eye, and a 15 in channel cat. Right a the end he hooked a cat that had to be 10 lbs. he fought it all the way to the boat and as I reached down to grab it, he jerked his head and snapped his 6 lb test. It was huge!! I wish we could have got it in the boat. We caught all fish on red, yellow and white jigs. As always all fish were released unharmed. Never underestimate crighton. There are some big fish in there.

Sounds like you had a nice trip. Maybe I should start going with you more seems like your having more luck than me there. I have never caught any catfish out of there. Wish I was there to see that I bet it was a big fish. I have locked had of about a two pound largemouth out of there last year but it broke the line also right by the boat

How on earth are you folks doing this? I have sunk at least a dozen hours into Creighton and only every caught a singe "keeper". I have been fishing it pretty heavily with crawfish since it was suggested to me that Crawfish work well on the James, and havn't gotten anything. I've fished pretty regularly from the bridge all the way up to the wide wide hole near the water intake. I've cause a handful of small aggressive sunfish and a few baby smallies.

So it absolutely blows my mind to hear of a person pulling 20 or more fish out of there in one trip.

You say you caught them on red white and yellow jigs. Jig? Can you be more specific, what kind of jigs? How did you retrieve them? I am just looking for any information I can get.

I use a small red minnow and rig it on a size 6 bait holder and put two sinkers on it about 5 in above the hook and reel it slowley to medium pace. near the bank and logs in the water and big rocks. I catch green sunfish google eye an small mouth that way and some small large mouth. And or I use a small grub rige the same way. If you want I can show you a few tricks if you want me to that will help you catch more

I've been fishing that place my whole life. One of the things I have learned about crighton is water level is everything. It seems to me bigger baits work when the water is high and smaller baits do better when the water is low. My favorite lure to use down there is a 16th oz. jig head hook with a crappie jig. My favorite colors during the day-when the Sun is out are chartreuse, red, yellow, and pink. When it's dark and or cloudy I like dark natural colors such as watermelon, black, dark brown etc... A slow retrieve seems to be the way they like it there. And my favorite part about fishing crappie jigs is you catch everything in the river. There are some big fish in there. But they are smart and hard to catch.

Very true hard to catch. Put very fun expecially the goggle eye. And mofloatjunkie I'm fixing to head down there now to do some bank fishing

What is a "crappie jig" you are describing? Can you link me an example or explain it.

When I use a weighted jig I cast it, let is sink, and retrieve it across the bottom with little hops. Is that correct?
