J-Doc Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Agree. Loosen drag. Shouldn't break hooks or snap rings. They do pull twice as hard as their size. Which makes them so fun. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Members zeepo Posted August 11, 2014 Author Members Posted August 11, 2014 Clinton lake has 2 sections one that has little timber and one that is flooded timber. They both hold large schools of wipers so when we fish the tree flats or channel swings in the trees you cannot let them run as you would in open water. I appreciate everyones comments and suggestions and cannot wait until tonight to give them a try. I do not have any popping corks but I think I can make one out of the biggest pop r topwater lure by taking the back hook off and adding a leader onto it and then tying a jig on. I will keep the front hooks on just in case. Gary
Terrierman Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Burn a kastmaster through them. Or a jig with a white curly tail.
Members The Bassman Posted August 12, 2014 Members Posted August 12, 2014 I have had some luck with clear tiny torpedoes. Seems like when the fish are keying smaller baitfish the clear bait works well.
M_Taylor Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 We're all fisherman so we all have had something different work for us. Here's my two cents. I found myself in a similar situation. Fish crashing shad as clear as day, it was maddening. I could see what size shad they were hitting and tried matching(and did a good job in my opinion). It wasn't until I tied on a giant popper and ripped that thing across the water did the fish key in on my bait. By standing out, instead of blending in, I stayed in constant action for hours. Went back to subtle stuff and nothing once again. So don't be afraid to cause some commotion.

Feathers and Fins Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 First thing I do is shut the big motor off well in advance of coming up to the school, nothing puts surfacing fish off like some joker running full blast in to them. Then I fire off the long range bait ( pencil popper ) work it till they are within casting distance of a bucktail and then go to a small swim bait and if all else fails live bait or a popping cork. Finally if all that fail I cuss and look for the next school. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

And when I say burn it, I crank as fast as I can.
