Members Ssalk Posted August 21, 2014 Members Posted August 21, 2014 Hey guys, long time reader just joined and coming to Taney for the first time ever this weekend.. Long time fisherman but have never fished exclusively for trout.. I will mainly be using ultralight spinning gear with 4lb fluoro.. I've got everything from size 16 midges to 1/2 ounce spoons.. When using the tiny flies, am I ok attaching a swivel 12 to 16 inches from the fly or will that cut down on takes?? I am planning on using an indicator above the swivel and adjusting for depth depending on the conditions.. Sound ok or am I off base..? Any suggestions welcomed...
Travis Swift Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 in the trophy area i like to throw jigs straight. 3/32 to 1/8 ounce usually. I like Sculpin/Ginger or white. I would also think about getting you a 7x tippet. If the water is running 4 pound is fine but i think 2 pound or a tippet will get you more bites especially if the water is off. Below the trophy area trout magnets are hard to beat, either without a float or with a float fished 4 foot deep or so depending on water. Again 4 will work but 2 will get you twice as many bites in my opinon. Stop by lilleys and they will hook you up with everything you need.
Members Ssalk Posted August 21, 2014 Author Members Posted August 21, 2014 Thanks... I figured I would miss something.. I will be wading/ shore fishing this trip as I am not comfortable running a boat alone in waters I know nothing about.. Am I correct in assuming you can't be in the water in the trophy area with 2 or more generators running?? When things are really cranking where do people fish..?? Not looking for any specific honey holes, just basic areas.. I don't use bait, only artificials, and am catch and release only.. If I'm lucky enough to get an exceptional fish, I will get a quick measurement and send it on its way.. Thanks and good luck to all...
