Coosa Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Got the day off Tomorrow and thought I would try out some new water. Never fished the niangua before so I called down and scheduled a shuttle. Sounds like I will be going from Bennet springs to barclay.(That seemed to be the shortest drive. Still 2hrs) My question is is this decent smallie water or are trout more the target fish for this area. Never done much trout fishing so was hoping to get into the smallies. It really doesn't matter I guess, I will be going either way. Was just hoping I picked a decent stretch for some fishing.
Ham Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 More trout at the beginning and more smallies at the end, but chances for both throughout the float. It's been years since I have fished that stretch, but I like it. You should catch fish and enjoy some cool, clear water. Bring a diving mask. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Wayne SW/MO Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 It's pretty much both, but they do tend to stay in their own environment. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Ozark Sweetwater Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 More trout this time of year in that stretch but you will pick up the occasional smallie. The river is super low right now so find the deeper holes and structure. http://ozarksweetwater.com
