Went out this weekend and thought I would post a couple pics of my trip. As we all know the river is a little low, has a little leaf litter, and the tree is still across the river above Frazier Bridge. I caught more goggle eye than smallmouth, everything on crankbaits, both deep and shallow. I had a double last year and got another one this year, you dont know what it is until you pull it in. And I had a big gar come up and bite off one of my wakebaits. Next time I will put on a wire leader. I took pictures of a few and released them all...great day on the river...

Wow!!!!! that is awesome, I have never seen this....two fish one lure.

Have you ever caught a fish that has a lure already in its mouth?

I had one break off the other day and got me thinking of this.

Had two near doubles last week...both times one of the fish got off before I could get them both in. It'll happen now and then if you use two treble hook lures, especially this time of year when the fish are in pods and competitive with each other.

I don't know how you did it, but it obviously worked for you. I was a little further up river Friday and couldn't keep a crank bait clean, after just about every cast it would come up covered in moss and junk. This was my first time fishing the James, maybe it clears up as you go down stream IDK?

I switched to top water and had a fun morning in the river, caught several bass in the 10 to 13" range and one big blue gill.

I love the double hook ups. Fools you for a few seconds thinking it's a really big bass.

Dougie, I have caught a fish with a lure in his mouth. It was a white bass on the sac river a few years ago. He had a rusted nasty rooster tail stuck between his mouth and eyeball. I pulled it and my lure out and set him free. I bet he was glad I caught him that day!!!

The smallmouth I have caught lately always have 2-3 others following the one on the hook and are usually about the same size so I can see how its possible to double up like you did. That's really cool.

Very cool!

I wonder if it had been in his mouth from the previous year when he was running up the river to spawn.
