Thermocline?

i will be up there in early September. Is there a Thermocline present in the lake right now?

There should most definitely be a thermocline set up. I am including (I think) a link to the Kansas City District Water Quality Reports. Unfortunately the sampling from last week have not yet been uploaded. Keep checking it and you should find some more recent information soon. I will try to get an updated one if I can.

Got this reply back regarding thermocline information. Apparently I am not smart enough to post the graphic he provided me but stragely the sample location on the Pomme arm above Hwy 83 marina did not show stratification.

In August, the lake was stratified in the lower end at 21ft, at the Lindley Creek site around 12ft, but not up at the upper end of the Pomme Arm.

We will try to have this and the other data for the year posted this month.

Panfisher, thanks for the info. I will be on the Pomme arm primarily between Bolivar Landing and just north of Lightfoot park. Where is the dividing line between Lower and Upper Pomme? My father is more familiar with the lake than I am.

That sampling point is just above Hwy 83 Marina, just below the P10 in the river channel. I am guessing that the reason is was not stratified at that location is because of the fairly shallow water at the sampling point. Just over 20' is about the norm for that spot. Honestly I haven't heard much in the way of fishing reports from Pomme lately, hot weather and too many other things happening for me to get a chance to try it out. Were I crappie fishing I would be trying in the coves, around trees on the edge of the creek channels. The last time I went up to Bolivar Landing there were little shad everywhere, so fish may well be relating more to the schools of shad than anything else, I don't know. I am not a bass fisherman but several years ago about this time of year an old bass fishing friend said when the lake was full of shad throw something that doesn't look like a shad, the next trip consisted of throwing crawdad colored cranks around logs in shallow water and made for a good day of fishing.

Thanks, I'm going to set out 5 anchored jugs for catfish and probably troll for walleye/whatever. If we see shad schools we'll definitely troll those areas. It sounds like I want the bottom hook in my jug system around 20 ft in the daytime. I'll probably move them to the flats in shallower water at night.

Latest information is posted to the corp site now. The interesting thing I see from the charts on Pt 24 is that even though there was not a severe drop off in Temp there was a drop off in Dissolved Oxygen. if went from 9.6 at 3 meters to 4.8 at 4 meters and 2.6 at 5 meters. Zero deeper than 5 meters.

Bass and Bluegill become stressed at less that 5 mg/1 and Channel Cat at less than 3.

Dis you find suspended fish? The Aug 20 report had 4 mg/1 dissolved oxygen at 4 meters for sample point 19 in Lindley arm

There were lots of fish and bait suspended from the top down to the tcline. Where in the heck is Pt. 19 in the Lindley. I don't remember anything greater than 15 and the water is only 10-12' deep there.
