ozark trout fisher Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Check this out Justin. http://www.rioproducts.com/blog/locating-stillwater-troutcomfort-factors-by-phil-rowley/ I know a lot of people follow the 68-70 degree rule, but i have always felt for the wild reproducing rainbows it's better to lay off of them a little sooner. Plus I figured a little less of a drive and fishing for a new species would be a lot of fun. In a small stream like that I think you're right to err on the side of caution. There will be plenty of trout water that's still fishable through the summer, though. Like, pretty much anywhere besides BSC.
Gavin Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Its at least an hour from STL to wadeable for smallmouth water. You can catch them closer to town...but you will want a boat and some conventional gear to catch consistently.
