Members Grillas80 Posted September 10, 2014 Members Posted September 10, 2014 What is the deal with all the barricades around the old Riverside Inn site? I was all excited after looking at the area via Google Earth and then I get there and there are barricades everywhere. I wanted to put my kayak in there but now I can't without dragging it at least 50 yards. Instead, I had to put in at the Ozark park and kayak along the river. The fishing is good there now that the teens are back in school. I caught a small mouth on my very first cast! I have also caught a trout which surprised me. I didn't think there were trout on this river.
Lancer09 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I've never seen a trout in there. I remember reading something in the paper about the neighborhood around there wanting to shut that access down because they didn't like the people and were trying to get the authorities involved. Did it look like something official or was it barricaded by the people who didn't like people using the access?

I don't think they mind people in general just not the type of crowd that was hanging around. Saw something on the news about closing it at night. Â Â
Members Grillas80 Posted September 11, 2014 Author Members Posted September 11, 2014 I'm pretty sure that I saw several trout in this area. They are streamline looking and about the right size. The one I caught, which swallowed the lure like they usually do when I fish on Taneycomo, didn't have the rainbow coloring but was not a brown trout either. What do you think it was?
jbooth24 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Could be I have never seen trout in the Finley

BATCAB27 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Some time of sucker possibly or a chub? This is what I was thinking too. There aren't any trout in the Finley to my knowledge.
Al Agnew Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Trout can turn up about anywhere, but usually in the spring or early summer after a lot of high water. One in the Finley could have originated in Crane Creek. But it doesn't seem likely that one would have survived all summer long in the Finley, and it wouldn't have just gotten there. How big was the fish? Can't imagine somebody who has caught trout in Taneycomo mistaking a sucker for one, but I guess if you just glanced at it you might mistake a creek chub, with its smallish scales and biggish mouth, for a trout.
Mofloatjunkie Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Could it have been a shad? I have caught shiny silver shad that could have been mistaken for a trout.
