jdmidwest Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Couple of funny things came up today when I stopped by a local shop I frequent. One guy was standing there talking about Crimson Trace lasers on carry pistols. He raised his shirt and pointed out that the laser on his $400 Kahr was bright and red but the one on his $1700 custon Kimber was green. He states, "I don't carry my Kimber when I come to town, it is too expensive and I am afraid it will get stolen". I laughed out loud and he asked me why I was laughing. I stated "most people carry a handgun to keep from getting robbed, but you don't want your expensive gun to get stolen". He then realized what he has said was funny and elaborates further. He comes to town to see his doctor and has to leave his carry piece in his car while in the office. Another conversation was regarding how the last lead smelter in Hercy had shut down now and all lead will come from overseas. One customer stated that he normally buys Fiocchi ammo anyway so nothing will change. I pointed out that it is manufactured in Lebanon. He counters that he thought it was from Italy. I come back with Lebanon Missouri, just north of Springfield. We had another good chuckle. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. mic Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Historically speaking... why is Lebanon such a hub for manufacturing?
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 It's been an aluminum boat manufacturing since the Lowe's started Lowe's. Dianna Lowe's dad strated Richline boats in Richland which is NE of Lebanon. Carl lowe worked for him and he a Dianna opened their own plant in Lebanon where there was a larger work force. I'm not sure when Landau came in, but It was before Tracker and it has had a rocky exisistance. Tracker built there because of the established workforce familiar with the industry and eventually G-3 followed. There is some familiarity with the equipment, welding and overall process that makes it handy to have people who have some understanding. Landau and Lowe's have changed hands a couple of times, but Lowe's remains a major builder. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Gatorjet Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 A couple years back while picking up a pistol that BPS had gotten in to fill a sale price rain check I saw a young lady looking through the handgun case. She had a couple ankle bitters with her, and the oldest one, maybe 5 or so pointed to one of the cute little 380's trimmed out in pink for the ladies. She said "That's a pretty one Mommy". To that the young lady answered "No baby, Momma wants a 45". I think if I were a country music writer I would have a hit with that line! Real men go propless!
