mic Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I stayed on that river Al when I was there a few years back. My biggest and first brown came out of that water. I always wanted to go upstream and fish the head waters, but didn't get the chance. Slight change of subject.... do you know what happened to the gent who's backyard was cut in half when the river changed course. I always wondered about that.
Al Agnew Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 He got permission to reroute the river back into its former course, and the backyard is now a backyard again. There's a big berm of rip rap along the edge of the river where it cut through into his yard before.
stlfisher Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Nicely done....streamer fishing is one of my favorite ways to fish. It is mostly dry's and streamer for me. I always struggle nymph fishing for some reason, but it is a confidence thing. Ever thought about fishing the Missouri for smallmouths in Montana? I hear there are some nice ones out in the prairie and I don't think they get much pressure.
Al Agnew Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 Missouri, lower Yellowstone, lower Bighorn, parts of the Flathead, all have good smallmouth populations, but all are several hours away from where I am except the Yellowstone, which is about 1.5 to 2 hours away. Problem with it is that it's a big river that has to be fished from some kind of boat, and it's hard to find somebody to shuttle you for a float trip down there. I'm going to fish it one of these days, but haven't yet.
