9LB Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 up early and on the water, It could not have been a better morning. Put in at Hartley the water temp was 74 degrees. Sunny but no wind. Fished steep banks, chunk rock, gravel, points, secondary points, flats, back in coves middle of coves, deep water. Pretty much everywhere. Caught 1 keeper on the Spook, 1 on a shaky head and 2 shorts on crankbait. The fishing was just awful ! I cast my arms off. We had fish almost jumping in the boat but very few bites. Shad and minnows were everywhere so I guess they had plenty to eat. I would find the bait but it seemed like no fish ? Even on graph I would have huge schools of bait fish but no game fish ??? If anyone was on them this weekend and have any tips I am all ears !
Bitethis Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I fished the 27th with the same results. Was a small local tourney...guy who won brought in 6 LM, 1 Walley, and 15 whites. Was culling LM and whites by 2pm...caught em all in the river (whites) and in the backs of shallow coves (LM). I was oblivious and didn't even come in top 5...ouch.
Members Brandon Knight Posted September 29, 2014 Members Posted September 29, 2014 We fished a tourney the 27th out of Hartley and actually did pretty good! Morning it was buzzbaits, spooks, and squarebills around standing timber in the creeks, then brush piles and ledges with worms/jigs rest of the day. Had 10lbs 3oz and finished second place.
Dutch Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 My neighbor and I were down there on the 25th. We went up in the creeks and caught 18 on spinnerbaits and spooks. We had 8 keepers.
Members basscat123 Posted September 30, 2014 Members Posted September 30, 2014 We fished all day in price branch. Stayed in the upper third running mostly square bills and ended up with 10 keepers with a 4 lber in the mix. We were pretty happy with that. Saw the same trees several times but kept hammering them and it paid off.
Members basscat123 Posted September 30, 2014 Members Posted September 30, 2014 Should have added we caught our fish sat this past weekend
9LB Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Thanks for the input guys ! I guess I should of stuck back in the creeks. That was actually the place I least expected to find them. Seemed like the main lake was holding so much bait that it was the place to be. I was in my treestand Saturday morning and I knew a tourny was going on with all the boat traffic at sun up !
Unimog Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I'll be on stockton this Friday to Wednesday for my fall trip. Will have to try some of these patterns and report back as long as I have Internet access. Will be putting in at RB ramp every day in a yellow and black boat in case anyone is around.

If Stockton received the same big rains that occurred here in Joplin overnight, I would think the fishing should be extremely good.
Unimog Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 That should be interesting. I've caught a couple fish in the shallow bushes there but not much. Not sure if that pattern ever shows up there or not?
