Jim Elam Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Float n fly has been working in the cold water areas of the James on sunny afternoons. Ned rig also working. Fish the deeper holes below riffles, fish the ned on a light head and very slow. I have caught fish on 1/8 oz shad fly or a 3" stick-o below a slip bobber. Caught 5 in 1.5 hrs on Saturday afternoon. Aggressor1988long Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Jbooth, outdoor outfitters across from bass pro has the rigs. He will rig them the way you want it or let you know whats the best. He is a really good guy and is a tournament fisherman who catches the hogs.
Members crappiekayaker Posted January 22, 2015 Members Posted January 22, 2015 Over Christmas break, I was catching the heck out of crappie at Fellows. Went back last Sunday and couldn't get a nibble. I didn't stay out long, due to the wind. The crappie I was catching where in 35 to 40 foot and suspended off brush piles. I'm planning on going back this weekend, I'll report if I find them.
Aggressor1988long Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I saw you out at fellows, no luck for me either, im in the red metal, flake charger bass boat
Members crappiekayaker Posted January 23, 2015 Members Posted January 23, 2015 Come say hi sometime. I'm usually either at Fellows or Springfield on Sundays. I didn't know duck season was still going on, until I heard gunshots. That's why I quickly headed back down. That and the wind kills you in a kayak, without a rudder.
jbooth24 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Crappie kayaker. How is fishing fellows with a kayak I just recently bought my first one and was wanting to do some fishing there. Do you stay close to the shore? And do the other boats swamp you
Members crappiekayaker Posted January 23, 2015 Members Posted January 23, 2015 Most of the time, I stay close to south shore. I've never been swamped out at Fellows but Springfield lake, that's another story..... I've found, the majority of boat traffic on Fellows is respectful of kayakers. I don't currently have one but I've thought about getting a orange flag, just from some added security.
jbooth24 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I might get one on mine just to be on the safe side of things. Thank you for the info
Members crappiekayaker Posted January 23, 2015 Members Posted January 23, 2015 No problem. If you see a tall guy in a camo FS10 Ascend, stop by and say hi. I’ve not contributed much to the forum but I’m going to try and start.
