Mike jones Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I fished the Everett Big Bass tourney on Saturday and the bite was spot on with what FnF has reported. Caught several on top water throughout the day, also had some on a square bill and drop shot. Lost a 4 pounder at the boat on the square bill (OUCH!!) Most fish were on the main lake....did see some schoolers in the back half of Ventris. Did weigh-in once and won a little money. I stayed within a couple miles of prairie creek in both directions.
J-Doc Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Cool report. Thanks for posting!! I myself have been in a slump on bass. I've been so busy chasing crappie and other species that I couldn't catch a green fish to save my life. I managed to snag a few Sunday. It was fun. Just chunking and winding trying to figure out how to trigger a bite. I will say that learning to fish for other species has definately helped my bass fishing. Getting one on and in the boat felt good. Even losing a few spots at the boat felt good. I myself found spinnerbaits and crankbaits to be working. I need to get at least 2-3 topwater rods rigged up for the upcoming topwater weather. It's near. I almost fished the tournament Saturday because it's for a good cause but plans prevented that. Mike jones Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Most fish were caught on cranks, jigs or top water. I believe the overall winner caught his on a jig and 2nd place was on a crank bait. One guy weighed in a smallmouth over 4 pounds caught on a black/red buzzbait!
J-Doc Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Geez. What was the winning weight? I heard about the smallmouth on a buzzbait. Jigs. I love them. But I can't catch a fish on one for anything. And I still can't put the darn thing down. I've tried all kinds of colors, trailers, etc. I must not be feeling the subtle bites on the fall or watching my line close enough. Sorry.....rant off. bluebasser86 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 That area right around PC ramp/marina seems to hold lots of quality fish. I caught my biggest Beaver largemouth last time I was down there on an A rig.
Champ188 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Never seen such a fat summertime bass, vue. And from Beaver Lake, no less. Biggest fish I've heard of caught this year out there.
Members vuekid Posted October 9, 2014 Members Posted October 9, 2014 You just have to go fishing for striper and get lucky on one of those babies on luck lol. Bait used: 6 inch live chub drift.
