forgot to ask, are you losing those fish when they jump ?

I know some anglers use spinning gear and it works for them

Thanks for the help and input. I have tried 20 lb Floro, but don't like it for manageability on the spool and feel like I get more bites with 10lb Floro, but I am going to go to 15lb Floro and try it. And yes I too have had the break off under the dock Sat as matter of fact. I would say the majority are lost are by/durning the jump. I can only think of 2 that came off under the surface of the water. I try to keep them down by pointing the rod under the surface. Like I said I'm relativity new to this spooning, but have caught enough to what to learn more.

RPS I like the Sweep & Hope thats pretty cool!! Seems like I have been Sweeping & A Praying!!!!

The bigger line isn't an issue it just takes an adjustment. I like to thumb the spool as it's falling. I can control the drop speed & feel the bites on that initial drop.

I usually pitch a 7/8oz war eagle, white. The LaPoint spoon is awesome too.

I will go to a 1/2oz spoon on 15lb when the fish are higher in the water column.

You might try 15lb braid on a spinning rod with a 1/4oz spoon. Myself, I prefer overkill with 20lb test. I can drop shot or swim grubs in the same dock stall, if I'm using a spinning rod though. So the deck is full of rods.

When they're busting topwater, I've got a Zara spook or Pop R that's tied on. Flukes are killer too.

Man....I'm using 6-8lb floroucarbon on spinning gear! Turn your drag down! lol Unless your dock fishing or near structure, then I could see the need for braid and a floro leader to resist line breaking. I can't use anything over 10lb anymore. I hate the dia. of bigger line.

He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

Dewayne, maybe try those stinger hooks for spoons instead of a treble, that might help keep em hooked up. They make crippled herrings too w/ just a single hook , no treble

+1 for the Lapoint spoon

Yup I had a guy swear to me the single hook is the way to go. I'm up for it?? I don't really see a huge difference, but I'm going to try a single next time out. I do use a spinning rod and 10lb ultracast braid with small spoons w/trebles and have no problem with them, the hookup to land ratio is very high with them. I really figure the heavy weight of the spoon is the "enemy" to landing more.

Im strictly fishing docks with a spoon.

Nothing open water, drop shot that stuff.

I replace all my spoon hooks with gamakatsu EWG trebles. Don't really set the hook. Just keep the pressure on. I rarely lose fish once they bite. Rod is a 7' medium BPS extreme, JM Gold bait cast reel, 16# flouroclear line. I really like the war eagle 7/8 oz spoons but I has used the cabelas real image too with success.

I love the mystery of fishing a spoon. 25 to 40 feet down you never know what you will get. I've caught a lot of nice LM, some KY, big whites, a 22" walleye, and an 8# flathead on the spoon.

I have fished this style spoon. I liked the hook system. It worked well but I could jiggle the bait off snags. I did not like the action as well as other spoons. I am contemplating changing the spoons I like to this arrangement.

Good call!

I've use that style of jig in the salt and wanted to use them in freshwater but the Shimano Butterfly jigs with which I am most familiar are all too large--at least to my way of thinking. However, these are smaller...that's a nice find.
