Fly_Guy Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Good technique - I think it's easy to miss some meat directly behind the head. One note - I like to wack the fish over the head to kill it first.
Al Agnew Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 That's the way I've always done it for everything from bluegill to bass to walleye. Doesn't waste much meat, but my brother in law can fillet about 10 times as many bluegill using an electric knife as I can.
Fly_Guy Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Al Agnew.... fillets....bass?? Everything I thought I knew in life has been a lie!
fishinwrench Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Kentucky's I'm sure. I filleted some bass tonite.
Al Agnew Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I actually eat quite a few small bass. Either spotted bass out of the Meramec river system (but I end up throwing some of them away because they are too wormy), bass out of my pond or my brother-in-law's pond because the population needs some controlling, or from a large private lake that doesn't get nearly enough fishing pressure. Never keep anything over about 14 inches, though, because that's when they start tasting a lot worse.
Fly_Guy Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Haha - I hadn't been trolling in a while Al - couldn't get a bite though
