tippet7 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I had a few minutes to kill this afternoon, so I went to the little area across from chateau on the lake, the emergency gate area. I stood on the rock shelf with my fly rod and saw a lot of white bass hugging the shelf. I thought whites were more open water fish. Is this something they normally do? I had a few chase my fly, but no takers. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
mixermarkb Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Are you 100 percent sure those were white bass? Sounds a lot like the behavior of large shad...
tippet7 Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Not 100% if those were shad, they are some big butt shad. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
gitnby Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Probably gizzard shad. Easiest way too distinguish them from whites when you see them in the water is the extreme forked tail of the shad and only one dorsal. Whites have 2 dorsals. Gizzard shad can be huge! I've seen some floating that had to be 2 lbs.
