Kayser Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Has anyone worked with this material ? I'm looking at making a blind, trying to decide on 500d or 1000d. Durability, waterproofing, and how easy it is to sew are my main concerns. Leaning towards 1k right now, but that will change if I can't sew it. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Bird Watcher Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I've never worked with cordura. I did make a blind out of some heavy canvas one time that I pop riveted together since I couldn't sew it. It worked great.
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Burlap works well and it's cheap in comparison. The color makes a good backgound for spraying on some breakup. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Kayser Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Need the windpoof/waterproof qualities of cordura or a similar material. Mud, water, and rain being the main concerns. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
cpriest Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Never worked with it but hunted out of a blind with it, quite nice. Here is a website my buddy bought from http://www.huntersdesignblinds.com
jdmidwest Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 What kind of blind? Cordura is nice, tight weave and will give a weather tite finish. But is expensive. I assume you are looking at a small, personal size blind. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Feathers and Fins Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Not sure what you are wanting to do, I built some this year our of camo burlap that is portable then went to home depot and bought grasses and such for it. My goal was concealment, portable, wind resistant ( use a tarp on the inside for it in strong wind) and something that I can wash off if needed and dry in the garage between trips. What are you wanting to build with it / use it for? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Burlap is easy to 3D which is a big plus if you're talking ducks. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Kayser Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 Burlap is a great idea for quick & light, and I've already got a ghillie blanket made up for those situations. Thanks for the suggestion, but it's not quite what I need here. Cordura is the obvious choice because of strength, toughness, windproof/waterproof. But if I can't work with it, I can't use it. JD- I'm going with a personal blind. Burlap isn't going to cut it for what I'm trying to do, and I've got a great price lined up on some cordura through a friend. But I don't want to take it if it's going to be too hard to work with and break needles on a sewing machine- I'll just be taking material that someone else could be using and tearing up my equipment in the process. Thanks for the input everyone, appreciate it. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
