What mount do you use when you are fly fishing. Do you record your whole trip or how do you know when you are going to record. Has any got any experience of mounts for drift boats?

The mount you choose depends upon what you're attaching the mount to. There's a flat mount for flat surfaces, a slightly curved mount for curved surfaces. However, there are also head mount and chest mount options as well. Mostly I wear the chest mount when wade fishing. I've attached a flat mount on my kayak to use when fishing out of it. I take a series of videos when out fishing. You couldn't just leave the camera on the whole time. Your battery will die after about 45 minutes or so. Once you have your video clips from your trip, you have to splice them together and then edit the entire thing the way you want. You will need a high end computer processor and graphics card to run the editing software (in my case, I use Premiere Pro by Adobe). I will say this, since you don't know when the fish are going to bite, there's LOTS of dead video that must be cut out in post processing.

Well, since I own lots of GoPro accessories and whatnot I decided to explain how I use them as well as how I organize all those things. Maybe you'll get some ideas from my video that will be helpful, especially if you are new to the GoPro system. :have-a-nice-day: One thing to keep in mind before you buy one of these cameras is that you will need a good computer (i.e., processor) and a nice graphics card in the computer. The software you use will require such things for successful editing of your videos. Otherwise, it will either take forever to render the video or simply crash your computer every time you try to make a video. My software is Premiere Pro by Adobe. Just to render this 23 minute video took about 45 minutes. Without the right computer system it would take hours.

Thanks for the Your tube link.. The video was great. I have a high end gaming computer that i run triple monitors with so the computer isn't a issue. I'm just new to the video world so trying to figure out how to know when to record and when not ect. And how to mount in a drift boat because I would say im going to need it to sit kind of high. Thanks for your help.

For a drift boat, I would consider building your own mount. You can search online for what others have done. I would recommend mounting the gopro to a long pole that can sit stationary in the boat and that you can stick underwater. Just be sure that the gopro is secured so it doesn't go floating down the river. When I am wade fishing, I use the chest mount and a tripod. I try to plan my shots ahead of time if I can then hope for the best. Sometime I leave it off until I've hooked a fish. I've been using my gopro for a year and it takes practice to get good quality video. Good editing is a plus. Catching big fish helps too.

Here are some of my favorite videos from a boat to give you some ideas:

Ecce38 is right. If you don't have a newer computer you are screwed! I looked at the new version the other day and the settings on it were astounding to say the least. I'm not even sure my one year old computer could handle the processing on the new camera!

Currently use a GoPro Hero 3 Silver on my quadcopter, but I sure would to be able to use in some of the fly-fishing I do.
Need to get a waterproof case for it, and maybe a polarized lens filter.....and maybe a harness for my chest(not sure I'd want it on my hat/head).

Haven't had a chance to do anymore flying for awhile....I still need to get some more practice before I fly my quadcopter down a river to get footage......that's for sure! But I will eventually get enough footage of fly-fishing to make something worth watching.

Here is a video I shot a year ago I believe fly fishing for White Bass. These cameras are versatile but have no zoom. Don't worry about the underwater stuff. I dive with mine and have had it to 120 feet. I dropped it on a fishing rod to 140 feet in the Florida Keys to look at some structure a guide and I were fishing. You just have to know what they can do and you can get some good use of them. Building mounts is the cheapest way to go as they can get really expensive. I have found the Iphone app to be very good at controlling my Hero 3 silver. Good luck.
