I think it's about time for a new line.

My rod is a 7'9" 3wt St. Croix Legend Ultra. I currently use scientific anglers GPX WF. I've been pretty happy with it, but am looking for some suggestions. I've heard good things about Teeny and Rio lines.

I usually fish the current river and use methods ranging from tiny #24 tricos to weighted #10 Mohair Leeches.

Dano is right,

On the other hand, Scientific Anglers will also give you a good line that fits your size and weight of your gear. It's worked for me for the last two years.

I've used several lines over the years from the top manufacturers: Cortland, Scientific Anglers, and Rio. They've all been good and I could not tell a lot of difference between them.

If you're looking to save some $$'s - Bass Pro sells their CV2 line for $19. I can't tell any difference between it and the top lines from the main manufacturers. The one I've got on my favorite trout rod is going into its third year and still going strong.

One thing I'm interested in is the newer lines that say they have a super high floating tip - that keeps floating. That's one thing that has alway annoyed me from even the best lines is that eventually the first foot or so of the line starts sinking. Anyone tried one of these lines? Cortland makes the "dyna tip" and I think SA makes one too.

thanks,

Greg

I've read a lot of good things about the H&H lines. The price is even almost reasonable.

Thanks for the heads up on the other thread. I think I'm leaning towards the Rio Grand WF3. I don't mind the price tag, as I generally get several years out of a line, and it's almost as important as the rod itself (at least I start seeing diminishing returns of an expensive rode matched to a crappy line).

I'll post a follow up when I buy it and actually get a chance to hit a stream.

the new gpx comes in a dry tip which is a tanish color on the tip section, but the rest of the line is the same bright green.

The cv2 is a great line and you cant go wrong with the rio grand line either. I hear good things about the new lefty kreh line, but havent had the chance to cast it yet.

3wt, when you get your line and try it out let me know what you think. I've also got a St. Croix LU 7'9" 3 wt and am looking for a line. Right now I've got a Wulff Triangle Taper, and I've also had a Wonderline on that rod. I think I liked the Wonderline better. I just don't know which direction I want to go in now.
