Members fullmoon Posted December 2, 2014 Members Posted December 2, 2014 I know you need to be careful posting because of the way it comes across. I did not mean any disrespect for Grumpy53 or GNSfishing. I'm 68 years old and semi-retired and a Army Vet (1967 to 1970). A funny thing is i've gotten many more "thanks for your service" in the last few years than any of the years I was in uniform. I started fishing Table Rock in 1964 when i was still in high school and would rather drive there than to stockton or truman. I haven't been able to fish much in the last 10 years because of to kids in college, weddings (omg did that blow through the savings) and now a new grandson.enough
LD Fisher Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Generally, States/Counties recognize the location of the PP on Jan 1st of each year as being the determining factor on charging the tax. That is, if the boat is in Barry county on Jan 1st then PP taxes would be due Barry county. They don't care where you spend the most time other than they want to make sure they know where to send the tax bill. I have a house and my boats in Shell Knob and they send me the tax bills to my KS address......at least they will until my wife retires!!!
Members Grumpy53 Posted December 3, 2014 Author Members Posted December 3, 2014 Step-son and I have a COE approved boatslip for me to put boat in. I know that the PP taxes are a whole lot cheaper in Barry County than they are in Johnson County Kansas. The boat will most likely stay on Table Rock 99% of the time. I am not trying to cheat the county or state out of any money. In Kansas i would not have to license the trailer but I will Missouri. I do most of my fishing on the Rock or close to it. I don't see a need to license it in Kansas and will leave it at the Rock all the time. I am sorry if any of you think that I am trying to cheat the government because that's not what I have in my mind. Fullmoon, I would like to say thank you for your time served in the service, in fact I want to tell EVERY VETERAN THANK YOU. If it was not for you men and women we might not be able to do the things that we want to do.
glennL Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Well, as a pt resident of mo and a full time resident of ks, I made this assessment to determine where I register my boat. The mo site states that if you have your boat in the state of mo, for more than 60 consecutive days you must register. I have an older boat. So, where I pay the pp and other fees is ks. I don't keep my boat in the water, instead at my lake house in mo. I currently don't have to buy plates for my trailer in ks and would have to in mo. I currently don't have to register my motor in ks and would have to in mo I would have to change my registration numbers on my boat and have to buy new letters. It's also not worth the hassle to change it over. Even thou I own a home in mo, I cannot get resident status for my fishing license. Even thou I pay many different taxes in mo. So, I will keep my boat registered in ks until mo allows me to buy my annual fishing license as a resident. I don't feel the state can expect me to pay fees and taxes on my boat and not allow me the resident status. I guess I will just need to continue to motor my boat or drive over the border every 59 days. It's just the principal of it. I'm sure that the state can do without my meager taxes, but if everyone did this, maybe we could get resident status for our fishing license when we stay in mo for over 60 days too. But I doubt it. But then again, we're dealing with a government, not "for the people" Glenn
