Members Mart Posted November 27, 2014 Members Posted November 27, 2014 Went out from 7:30 to 10:00 this morning. Air temp started at 32 and ended at 35. It was a little rough on the hands. Water temp was 53 - 54. I worked the wiggle wart for about 1-1/2 hours in 2 to 12 feet of water, through brush, trees, and rock ledges. Nothing. Moved to the center of the cove and found some suspending fish from 20 to 40 feet deep. Caught 4 keeper K's with one 17" beauty. Lost a couple others that came off before I could get my hands on them and warm my fingers. I have really struggled this year shallow fishing but it always seems I can find one to bite the jigging spoon. Happy Thankgiving to everyone. I am thankful for this forum and the great community of Table Rock fishermen!
Pepe Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Thanks for the report, Matt. You are tougher than I am to brave that cold.
merc1997 Bo Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 hey, nothing wrong with whacking them on a spoon. not a bad morning of catching. bo
Moswimb8slinger Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I went for a little bit this afternoon before dinner. Threw my usual swimbaits but only had curious followers. Managed to get 2 short smallies on an A-rig with white grubs, on back to back cast, slow rolled along a ledge in 20 ft. Needed a little more wind or clouds for the swimbaits to be really effective like last Saturday
Donna G Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Good job. We noticed fish stacked in the middle of pockets toward the mouth as we were trolling from one point to the other 25-40 fow. I commented to Champ188 that we might be able to drag a FB jig or spoon, but neither of us wanted to switch gears at that point. Sounds like it might have been a good idea. Members Mart Posted November 28, 2014 Author Members Posted November 28, 2014 Donna, the center of the cove is 50-60 and the fish were ranging from 20 ft and higher to 40 and deeper. When I was down a couple weeks ago I found other big pods of shad and bass over 90 - 100 ft in the Jakes branch. I really would like to get SB or WW fish some time but it does not seem to be working for me this year.
Champ188 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 The fish (bait included) all over the lake seem to be staying out on the main lake this fall. We've caught some up shallow, but practically every one of them was right off the main lake or a major creek channel. Can't really say I think it's because of the low water because I've caught them dirt shallow some falls when the lake was at this level and lower. Thanks for tip, Mart. May have to drag out the #^^%&(% spoons.
Members oldasdirt Posted November 28, 2014 Members Posted November 28, 2014 My problem with the deeper fish is catch one or two and that's it they lock up. It's been like that most of the fall for me anyway.
Donna G Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 True for us, too. You won't catch more than one or two in any spot. We haven't tore 'em up shallow this fall like we wanted to, but it hasn't been terrible. We're just not fans of fishing deep if we don't have to.
