I've done some reading on nymphing for smallies, and there is quite a bit of literature on the web about doing so. What aquatic insects are in the Buffalo, and particularly in the winter and spring months. I'm looking for runs with decent pools at the end. Any suggestions?

Also interested in doing an overnight trip with about a 5 mile hike in, camping and fishing, then hiking out the next day. Any suggestions?

No one gripes about obese fish.

Matching the hatch for smallies is usually a waste of time. Something big, buggy, and dark with contrasting rubber legs (Bitch creek, BUBfly, leech patterns).

Yellow legs are a thing with some guys. I've had better luck with white.

A big black woolly worm with white rubber legs and antennae will move a lot of fish. They can't seem to resist coming closer for a good long look anyway.
