A childhood friend of mine is in town on leave from the Navy, and I was wanting to take him out to chase a few stripers, but only have one morning to do so. Based on recent patterns, would we be better served to go Saturday with clouds and chances for rain, or Sunday when the cloud cover should be breaking up? Also, is it worthwhile to get brooders, or are shad the only thing they are honing in on? Haven't been able to hit the water with him for about five years and would love to put him on some fish.

We went today, HSB has stripers we trolled Rapala SR9's 200ft back and nabbed one, Hickory creek also has some as does Monte Ne. With the weather pattern it will be hard to say what they will bite on if at all. Post fronts can be very good or very bad, Sunday might be the better of the two days as it looks like Saturday is going to be very wet.

Went out to MN and HSB. Marked bait and what we thought were striper but we couldn't get them to bite. Rained and hailed on us. Drifted live bait, but not luck. Starting to realize what a challenge this is going to be chasing striper in a kayak. challenge accepted.

I passed you guys on my way back in to the ramp. We had the same story. Today ended up being the only day we could make it. Early there were whites, striper, and bait blacking out my unit out at the mouth of mn. But there were absolutely no active fish to be found. Im sure tomorrow with some sun would have produced better results but it was better to be on the lake than remodelling a house.

You must sacrifice your first born, I did it but then the striper gods made me take him back, the deal was they would sacrifice some of theirs if I took him back. Apparently he made them watch (Barney) over and over and they made the call that was truly torture and cruel and unusual punishment.

Coach it would have been tough out there yesterday. Monday and Tuesday should be better, Monday being the best. I am a firm believer in the 2nd and 3rd days after a storm or full moon, it has just proven itself out to many times for me. You guys are in the right zone though.

Lol. I can't give up my first born. He will be my fishing partner one day and they couldn't handle him for a day.

That makes me feel better that we were around them. After reading and re reading the articles and looking through the forums I thought we found the spots within the spots and got a little discouraged when we didn't get any action, but that's how it goes sometimes. I'll try to sneak out some more before winter break is up and I've got to work.

They can be as temperamental as us. I sure wasn't going out yesterday and today I am spending the day cleaning rods, reels and organizing gear in preparation for the New Year plus making goose jerky. Its tempting to sneak out for a while this afternoon though my bet would be if the sun comes out they will come up to take advantage of it. Crappie might even be moving on to the flats and I do love spooning them this time of year.

Do not get discouraged though it took me some time to figure them out but once you do, you will learn how predictable at least in the areas and time of year. You have a very big advantage over many boats as you will be able to get in skinny skinny water. Soon they will be up in the White and War Eagle arms and in very shallow water 1 to 3ft and many people wont dare take their boats in that shallow yet it has been some of my best places for numbers and size. Picture seeing 15 to 40lb fish in that shallow.
