Micheal Kyle Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Been up to the farm a couple afternoons this week with my law dog brother and it has been good. The Pomme de Terre river flows right through it and it is loaded with mallards. They have been coming in around 4pm and still flying in after dark, good groups too. Had a group tonight of at least 50 birds. When we hunt this spot on the river we use no mojos maybe a dozen deeks at most and very little calling. I do belive in a jerk cord to put some motion on the water. I have got some other reports from some buddies that hunt other rivers that they are doing good as well. Now if we can get some snow they will really blow up!! Here is a pic from today with my brother. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Bird Watcher Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Always cool when you can hunt the family farm. Nice job.
Micheal Kyle Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Thanks!!! It has been a very good spot for us the last couple of years. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!

cpriest Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I appreciate your report. This morning I got out and all my spots were frozen solid. I've broke ice plenty before but this was too much. Drove down to the river. Have a little bit of a hike, and remembered your post. Took a dozen deeks. Had to even break a little ice at the eddy we set up in. Dropped 4 mallards and off the water by 9:15 as I had promised the wife I would be home early. Great quick hunt.
JohnP Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Congrats, wish our river hunt was as good yestetday but it just wasn't meant to be. Open water just no birds to speak of.
Fish Bork Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I hit a spot close to home on the river tonight, paddled upstream and knocked some out of an eddy, whiffed . Met some guys floating down the river and they had a nice mixed bag and a goose. Set up in the eddy hoping something would fly by.... nada. Gonna hit it again tomorrow Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Micheal Kyle Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Thanks for the great comments, plus glad it might have helped out for you guys to get some birds. It slowed down a lot especially with the rain today only shot 2 mallards but it did give me chance to work my new pup. Jag is 8 months old and really picking it up, I can not wait till next year with him! To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
mhowerton Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 New pups are great and frustrating at the same time. Mine just turned two and the light bulb has come one strong this year. Hunting the river on Friday and we killed two gadwalls one belly up in the decoys and one out in the current still moving. He ran right past the first one and made the retrieve on the longer one. Came back and ran right to the one in the decoys. Good luck the rest of the season.
