Title says it all guys. Ill be down there from the 1st-5th and want to get as much fishing in as possible. This will be my first time not only fishing jack fork but fishing from a kayak period so all advice is welcome. Any tips for the river that time of the year? I planned the trip to be during the week as opposed to the weekend to try and stay away from most of the crowd.

The bass should be in summer mode by then. Walk the dog plugs, flukes, and something to drag on the bottom would be my first 3 choices. Buzz bait and some jitter bugs for after dark, walker could work too. Fish the faster moving baits while you are moving along. Fishing bottom bouncers from a moving boat is hard unless the current is slow, our slack. Slow the boat, stop it, eddy out ang cast back up, our get out and wade if you need too. Might try dead drifting a wacky rigged Z-man Zinker or cut one in half and fish a Ned rig if all else fails. Hope you have a great trip

Awesome thanks for the advice. I've always waded rivers like that but I'm looking forward to trying things from a kayak.

Which section are you going to be fishing? We hit the upper jacks last year just after Memorial day, did pretty good...fewer boats than down below.

That i'm a little unsure on. we will be staying at shadylane cabins right there in Eminence. I'm not opposed to traveling away from where we are staying for the best fishing though.

Eminence downstream is good and always has enough water to float. If it's a dry spring, the upper river above Alley Spring will already be getting low enough to make floating a little difficult. Alley to Eminence is the worst stretch of the river for smallmouth; they are there but not in the numbers they are above and below, because Alley Spring keeps that stretch of river too cold. But you can get into some pickerel in that stretch.

Thanks Al. I was thinking of putting in somewhere near 19 bridge if that's possible and floating down to 2 rivers canoe.

that should be a good section. There will be more than a few canoes per day there. I have rented from Harveys and Windys, both had good service. We will be down to our place on the upper Jacks for about a week sometime around Memorial Day. I will probably post a report then.

I have had good luck on small crank baits, road runners and beetle spins there. 19 on down should be better water than above by then. Weekdays should not be too crowded.
