I put one on my old boat but it was a mod v tri hull with an 85hp Rude. It came with one on it because former owner used it to ski with and needed it to plane out u Der load. It worked some.

I changed it out for one that protruded out over the prop. I couldn't lower the motor any lower as it was on the top mounting hole. My prop slip was very bad. It would blow out if trimmed up full. So I bought an aggressive take prop with cup and it improved. When added the new foil with it over the prop, it reduced the rooster tail and increased "grip" pushing my little 15 footer to 40mph GPS. Which is smoking fast for a heavy tri hull with an 85 on it. Modern Trackers with 90 DFI gets same speed.

Now.....

Do I recommend one? No. Mine was a specific need as my motor shaft length was short for that model boat. Just a tiny bit.

On a boat with a 200???? I'd be embarrassed to show up with one on it. :-) That's like wearing a button that says "I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT" in a honkey tonk. :-)

Yes Bill. Mine was an old flat pad hull with three Vs up front. And she was HEAVY. But Wrench ride and fished from her. She would scoot. Thanks to the tail. The new one reduced the rooster from shooting up higher than the scowling and basically created something that would deflect the spray back downward and my prop slip went from 6% to 3% and it increased 2-3mph. So it helped mine limp on down the water. :-)

I miss that little boat. Until I turn the key on my new Mercury and it starts in 2 seconds and does not require me to fan smoke away. LOL!! Sorry wrench. I know you loved that motor. :-). I did too but I don't miss it that much.

A foil is a last ditch solution to a problem created by poor planning. In all other circumstances, avoid.

Yep. Agreed.

Oh but people are so quick to supply opinions on a forum.

Some forums are much worse. This one is laid back! Lol

I have one on my Triton 189. In Colorado at 5000 to 8000 foot lakes I needed it when I had 40 to 50 gals in live well and all equip. Here in ar I had to go from a 21" to a 25" 5 blade prop. Because of engine rpm's. It depends on many things. Here I might not need it but I left it on. When on the plan it does not effect top end, but it helps at slow speed.

I bet you even shine your foil.

And I say that in respect. :-) I'm often accused of over cleaning and such myself.
