Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 17, 2007 Root Admin Posted January 17, 2007 I was having SO many problems with netscape I finally took my internet buddy's advice (Jim Turner) and switched to FireFox. He said I could import all my important info from netscape brower like bookmarks and such over easy (I didn't really believe him cause he's such a wizz and all). He also said FireFox has a email program like netscape that I could do the same and import all my addresses and emails over to Thunderbird... I thought that has to be difficult! Bottom line- it was all easy as pie. No more lockups and FireFox is really much friendlier. Even has a spell checker no matter where you are tying... like here on the forum in this text box which is really cool- if you care about your spelling. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ is the link. My stats say that 2% of users use netscape, 25% use Firefox and the rest explorer. If your use IE now and don't have 7.0, you should upgrade.
Terry Beeson Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I'll second the motion on FireFox... I've used it for net and email as well... IE 7.0 at work is pretty good too... WebFreeman Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I use it on my mac and pc. It's great and much less virus concern. And I loved the tabbed browsing. I have 5 tabs open right now and it doesn't clutter up the screen. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Mikey Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Firefox user here too. I love all the great extensions and plug ins available for firefox. Also the large selection of skins is handy when you find one easy on the eyes. mikey Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ Danoinark Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 The only problem I have seen with firefox is it seems to load pictures slower than IE. Not a big deal compared to the other benefits. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Mikey Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Used to Opera would load images very quickly. Not sure now as it is no longer a free program. it was one of the first with tabbed browsing...10 years ago. Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ jdmidwest Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Firefox is the best, been using it since the first version came out. Never really liked Netscape and have tried Opera. Opera is still free and a definite second to Firefox. I like the add-ons and tabs in Firefox, I use the Pdf manager and flash/ad blockers the most. I only have a dialup in the country, so blocking all the crap ads increases page load times. IE7 tried to copy Firefox features, but still did not do them right. Dano, the reason IE loads pics quicker is a setting that compresses them to a smaller size. I am sure there is a tweak for Firefox too. You would have to edit the about:config file I think. There are several good websites on tweaking firefox to make it do just about anything.
