budman Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Two friends and I will be staying at Lilley's and fishing Monday to Wednesday. We plan on wading up by the dam unless they are running lots of water. Don't have a boat so we would like to know some place to wade and how much is too much water. We will be fly fishing and plan on bring a good assortment of different flies. We have never fished there and would like some ideas or some places to start.
Members K Wells Posted January 29, 2015 Members Posted January 29, 2015 That's awesome that you get to take a fishing trip with your buds. There is a "Pinned" thread on the Taneycomo forum that has a link to the generation site. I don't go down there often, and I'm sure someone will correct me, but here's the little I know: Check the charts for the day you want to fish, and if the chart shows anywhere close to 55 mwh then you'll be able to find some good wade fishing up near the dam. That is one unit of water, and anything below that is great wade fishing. Somewhere between one unit and two units you lose your ability to get in the water without swimming. At least that is what I've seen near the lower access by the hatchery. I do not typically go to the outlets so I don't know how the water level effects those areas. I hope this helps and I hope someone else can offer more advice. The fishing is always good, when you're fishing.
trythisonemv Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 If you are staying at Lilly's you can ask the staff there! They know everything about this subject. I think they even keep the gen schedule in the office.
Members Nharris Posted February 2, 2015 Members Posted February 2, 2015 I just fished taney over the weekend. between the re-bar hole and outlet 2. Grey scuds were the best for me. Fishing was Alittle slower but the spawn is near so that is expected.
Members Nharris Posted February 2, 2015 Members Posted February 2, 2015 You can still wade Alittle with one generator running obviously not out in the middle of the lake. I will usually wade out around 10 to 15 feet from shore with running water. Just know your ability and use caution.
