we used to use this rig, but with bigger hook and head, back in the late 90's dealing with late summer bass suspended in the tops of deep trees. kinda in the era when senkos were first being utilized to catch bass. could not get a bite on the full 5" senko, so, i cut one in half to down size and try it. it was just what they wanted. fishing these guys on small head and light line is very effective. especially when dealing with very inactive bass. right size fall rate and speed equal success.

Takes a couple of big swallows of courage to get over the hook size. Did for me at first. Then I went too far in the other direction to number 6's and number 4's, before letting the needle settle back to 2's and 1's. Bigger than a #1 and you run the risk of killing it, smaller than a #2 and you start to get into hook up issues.

That is a great fish and congrats all the way around.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer on this post but that is the worst way to hold a fish ever!

A fish especially that size should never be held that way. That is harder and more damanging on the fish than the hook you put in him.

If you want to pose for a pic, please hold them with both hands or if doing a selfie, hold with the back of your hand facing up while you have your thumb pointing down.

Again, great fish and great report.

i have been using a #2 in the proto types that i have been fishing, and the hookup is great. #1's would work as well, just did not have any with a #1. as stated, bigger hook would kill the action. same problem many have when worm fishing. many use way too big of a hook and kill the action of the worm.

Thanks to all for the feedback...lots of great info on this forum and appreciate the sharing environment. Hope to be able to share some insights (and hopefully some successes) during my trips this Spring. Fish on!!!

Nice fish, but don't break his jaw please. That is detrimental to that fish and the others you hold like that. On larger fish, two hands is the way to go.

Guys... Bo can tell us for sure, but I think that fish is probably about 17"-18". Should be able to hold her any way you like.
