Billfo Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Bill update... Been here on Holiday Island Drive about a 6 weeks. Absolutely love it here, (except for the ticks & chiggers which are eating me alive). I need to combine my driving trips better. Great view of Little Golden Gate & castle. Fishing is slow at best around Holiday Island (granted in not very good at it anyway). Fireworks from the water were awesome as are the other mariners I have encountered both on & off the water. Marina is really looking up since I started leasing my slip. (we had our lift relocated from Big Indian creek arm to Holiday Island). Living on a hill will suck this winter- I will have to watch the weather closely or just won't go anywhere...Will need ice cleats on my shoes to check mailbox in winter. Big downfall- there are NO mixed drinks available at local bars/restaurants.. Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !

Sparky's in town has a bar, and I think the Island Bar and Grill will do meals and mixed beverages. I do know more than one person who joined the Elks club up by Sunfest so they can have a drink with their meal. Billfo 1
Billfo Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 The "Island Bar and Grill" shut down yesterday Will check out the other places you shared with me.. Thanks. Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
rps Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I am puzzled by their shut down. They always seemed busy. Try the Office Pub on 86 in Missouri. A couple of miles east of where 23 intersects with 86. Ask for Amy as your waitress. One of my former students.
oneshot Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 My wife and I moved here from Tulsa for the 2002-2003 school year. We both teach as second careers. We live in the development but not on the "Island." We love our situation here, but we have learned to accomodate certain things different from our prior life in Tulsa. Pros: Diverse, tolerant people. Lack of traffic lights. Low crime rate. Less expensive housing than Tulsa. Low taxes compared to Oklahoma and Tulsa. You can actually see the stars. Table Rock Lake and Beaver Lake and trout fishing within minutes from the house. 18 hole and 9 hole golf course on site. Fully functional civic organizations (Rotary, etc.) Many local businesses, the vast majority of which give good and honest service or products. Several high quality local eateries ranging from burgers to lobster. Things that required adjustment: Two local grocery stores that work hard but are on the tail of the delivery chain meaning the produce is more seasonal than what you see in cities. Good movie theaters are an hour away - as are Home Depot, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, Sams, Sears, and all the other big box stores. The closest WalMart is in Berryville, 15 miles away. (We go to Cassville instead.) Gasoline is more expensive. Learning to avoid downtown Eureka on "parade" days (Corvette weekend, Diversity weekend, Alcholics Anonymous weekend, Bikers, Blues, and Barbeque weekend, etc.) Learning your way around. This is NOT a grid layout area like Tulsa or Omaha, and everyone else assumes you know the location of which they are speaking. Choose your cell phone provider based on where you live - in these hills both ATT and Verizon have coverage holes and Sprint is worse. We love it here, now that we have learned to adjust. Sounds about like where I live, except I'm not into Golf. oneshot Billfo 1

But the good side is it keeps most of the residents OFF the water, after vacation season ( when the water is too hot anyway) Table Rock is pretty boat free ( at least where we use to be @ Big Indian near Baxter Marina). Some days it seemed like you have the lake to your self. Email me Red-Right-Returning is for quitters !
