Ready to upgrade from my old cheapie (Redington Crosswater 9' 5#), but not gonna spend more than $350.00. Two that have my attention are the TFO BVK, and the Douglas DXF. Does anyone have experience with either of these? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Just to clarify; I'm looking for a decent "all-around" trout rod.

I loved the last BVK I casted. Light, responsive, and had some touch, but could feel the power.

Never heard of the douglas.

I have a couple of the TFO fly rods. You really should try to make it by a shop and cast the rod before you buy it. You may like a less expensive rod more than a pricey one.

I went expecting to buy a more expensive one, but I liked the way the Pro series felt better.

I like a lot of rods that cost far less than $350. Cabelas LSI series is less than $200 (and often on sale via their website) and fantastic. The 8'6" 4 wt is awesome. I don't own one yet, but have talked to a couple of folks about the Allen rods with stellar reviews.

I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.

I had the BVK 9/5 for a short while and was generally pleased with it, but it was not the 'perfect' rod for me (bought it without doing any trial casting). It was great for short to mid-range casts, but I thought it had a fairly narrow "forgiveness" factor when casting long-range.

I preferred the Rio Gold #6 line on it. Tried the #5 Gold, #5 Perception, #5 SA GPX, #5 Orvis Wonderline, and a Bario GT 125 line. My 2nd preference was the #5 Perception.

Well, true to my nature -- I went against the grain and ordered the Douglas. Pretty sure I'll add a BVK in the near future for heavier/bigger flies. Thanks for the input guys!
