Members Motor City Posted January 21, 2007 Members Posted January 21, 2007 Anyone care to discuss the regulations at Roaring River? I know better, and I forgot to look at the winter hours and almost came home with a 150 dollar ticket. Has anyone seen any signs showing the park hours down there? I know, I know, read the rules and regulations. I did everything but check the park times. BUT, I did not see it posted where we parked and I read three signs looking for it, and I got hungry and went to town at 3:30, came back at 4:15 and proceeded to fish. Figure it out from there. But, no ticket. Mr. Ranger kept telling me it was posted on the three signs I told him I read, and instead of arguing and getting him riled up, I conceded and did not get a ticket. Just looking for comments here, I screwed up and I am looking for others to bare their faults!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 21, 2007 Root Admin Posted January 21, 2007 Next time down there take a pic of the signs and post them... it'd be interesting to see if it's posted or not. If not, I'd say you'd have a good chance before a judge to argue your case. It was nice that he let you off though.
Members rvconrad Posted January 21, 2007 Members Posted January 21, 2007 The whistle blows at 8 and 4 every day. Tim's flyshop also has the hours posted on the chalk board out front. Last but not least, if you are the only one there, somethings wrong for sure. I can't say I remember where those signs are.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I was there on Friday. I thought I remember the times being posted on the signs by the parking lots. But, now you've got me wondering? I do know they blow the whistle at 4 p.m. though. Glad to hear the ranger was a nice guy and didn't give out a ticket. Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
jdmidwest Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 I think that is the way it has always been during C&R in all of the parks. They blow the horn at 8 am and 4 pm. You get to sleep late and get home for supper! signs are usually few and far between. Back in the day when you had to get a tag to fish it was posted on the building where you got the tag. Since you don't have to get a daily tag now, I have not noticed the signs at Montauk. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Steve Smith Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 There are or were two or three signs throughout the park, but these are very small and go unnoticed. These are about 8X11 inches that list the hours and general rules of the C&R season on them. I know they did remove the signs up during the normal season that say "plastics allowed" in the upper end. These type baits are obviously not allowed during C&R season's "fly only" rule. I know they usually post the rules in each "outhouse" along the river too, but they didn't this year. In any case Motor, the Ranger figured it was an honest mistake. Happens to the best of us. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Members Motor City Posted January 26, 2007 Author Members Posted January 26, 2007 I am headed up in the morning to fish again, and I will take a camera and snap a photo of said sign and post it here. I am packing a lunch this time and wont be leaving at 3:15 like I did before. I want to actually hear the horn or whistle or whatever it is. I am also going to read the regs. from end to end.

Members Motor City Posted January 27, 2007 Author Members Posted January 27, 2007 As some famous redneck on television said, "Here's your sign!!". Not trying to beat a dead horse, but this is the sign he said had the hours on it. This is hard to read, but nothing like that is posted. I did get there early enough to hear the horn and waited until 4:03 my time to hear it again! The fishing was awesome yesterday also. Prince nymph #18 was the most popular fly of the day. Between the three of us that were fishing, we caught between 30 and 40 fish. It was a good day.
Members Motor City Posted February 3, 2007 Author Members Posted February 3, 2007 Guys, I want to thank you for looking at this a bit. I could not get the link for the sign to come up however. It really is a great place to fish and I will continue to do so for a long time. I might even skip work Monday to fish since Beaver is running a bunch of water.
