Members 195vs Posted March 7, 2015 Members Posted March 7, 2015 Hi I just found this site about a month ago, really nice place. I grew up here in NW AR. Then moved away in 1991 After spending 22 years in MN I got sick of the unreasonably cold winters and moved back about 1.5 years ago The most important thing to me I brought back home with me was my boat. I got really interested in fishing in MN so I am having to learn how to fish deeper here. In MN I mostly fished the Mississippi River when it wasn't froze over the water temp or depth was never to the point you needed to fish deep. I have found a lot of useful information here. I have mostly fished for Bass. I have a 2003 ranger 195vs. I love to catch and release any kind of fish I can and look forward to learning more about stripers. Thanks for the great site Dave
J-Doc Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Welcome and welcome back. I'll warn ya. As a former "all bass and nothing but bass" angler, this site and striper are habit forming. I used to hate strippers because of various reasons. I didn't know any better. Then I caught one. And then I grilled it. Now. ..I prefer it over any other fish for eating. Including grouper! Catfish......I can't eat anymore. Nasty compared to striper or crappie. But that's just me. :-) This lake is an ever changing puzzle. It's a wonderful mystery and what makes it a challenge. I've visited other lakes that are similar and used the knowledge I've gained from Beaver. If you're used to river fishing, then I suggest going up river and fish similar to what you know. Then work your way down river towards the dam and learn your way around, new techniques, etc. Verses starting out at the dam and getting frustrated. Fish I target in 5-8ft up river will be 15-18 mid lake and 20-25 by the dam due to water clarity. Bass are plentiful but get more pressure on this lake than any other species. Well, except maybe crappie but I'm betting there are more bass anglers than crappie anglers consistently on the lake. From what I have witnessed over the years. So that pressure makes it tougher to fish for bass I think. That and the lake itself can be tough because it fishes smaller than the average of water it offers. Hang around. You'll learn something. When you do, share it and others will share also. :-) Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. J-Doc Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I target bass, walleye, crappie, striper, and tarpon. Obviously I can't catch tarpon here so I get my fix with stripers. I'm still a bass guy and always will be. It's my roots. Bill Dance got me into fishing as a kid. I live to bass fish but ok days when they are not biting for me (most days) I keep a crappie rod in the boat. I them catch bass on crappie gear. Go figure. So I'm a multi species guy now. Forgot to mention that. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. Members 195vs Posted March 7, 2015 Author Members Posted March 7, 2015 Thanks J doc I live and work out in the Garfield area. I put in the last really nice day we had last month at PC and fished down past HC. I do want to learn all of the lake but the north end is the most convenient for me. I fished to much all bundled up in MN so I have had all the cold weather fishing I care to see. As long as I am on the water its a good day for me. if any fish make it in the boat that makes it all the better.
Feathers and Fins Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Welcome to the Site and Lake, I think if you love a challenge Beaver is the lake for anyone if not, well that's why they made roaring river lol. Fishing should turn on the next few weeks barring any more snow. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Well that's the attitude to have. Any fish can be fun. Good for you! Ventris is probably the closest ramp for you I assume. The Rocky Branch area to just below the 12 bridge is one of my favorite areas. I hear ya on the cold weather. I'm done with it. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. Indian creek arm can provide some pretty good fishing at times. Which reminds me, I need to get over there.
nathanhooper Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 There are no fish up here around Indian Creek.....nope....nothing to see here.... You hit the nail 195vs, this site is the #1 source of info on this lake as far as I'm concerned. I find that when you share info, then more info flows your way. I don't get on much during the winter months because my boat gets put away in lue of all my hunting gear. But I just drug the tarp off here this morning and put some fresh oil in the gear box. Heading out to Indian Creek in a few hours. I live just north of you in Gateway, work in Avoca. Welcome to the site. Maybe we will see each other on the water sometime. I fish out of a homemade(kind of) center console. Blue and White. Holler if you see me.
Members 195vs Posted March 7, 2015 Author Members Posted March 7, 2015 The challenge is one of the great things I love about this lake. That and there are so many different areas to it. It is 11 miles to Lost Bridge ramps for me. Where I lived in MN it was an hour and 15 minutes to water and the best was the river so I am loving this. With a 19.5 foot fiberglass boat with a 200 hp on the back I am some what picky about a dock where I put in. It has its share of scratches from the river but I try not to make more. Thanks everyone Dave

I remember 24 inches of snow on March 17 1989 Saint Patrick's Day
