crappie_adams83 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Just wondering I was up at Bennett the eighth and saw a group if guys using UL rigs with what look to be like micro jigs and was wondering when did a micro jig become a fly if every body had a pole and a fish on the line there would never be a war
upstream Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 When you cast it from the bank and it flies over someone s head it is a fly. brittsnbirds and Aggressor1988long 2
NoLuck Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Simple. Material tied onto a single hook. They've been using them there for years. It's not what a lot of people consider a fly but it is legal. I always thought that Zone 1 was all a fly rod area when I was a kid. But that was just what people fished with there. Now you have to battle with the bank fisherman to wade fish. Plus you have to duck flys being thrown past you while wading from bank fishermen.
Smalliebigs Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Read the 6th highlighted paragraph, #4 definition of a "fly" by the MDC's standard. http://mdc.mo.gov/about-us/about-regulations/regulations-and-permits-definitions

It's incredible that more people don't get injured from the fly fisherman and all the false casting that goes on. Most of the time a roll cast will do just fine at Bennett. instagram.com/fishingmill twitter.com/Fishingmill vimeo.com/fishingmill
upstream Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Common sense says don't stand or walk behind a person casting a flyrod brittsnbirds 1
Fishingmill Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Well that's a given. In zone 1, I've seen guys whose false casts just about reach the road. There's also plenty of kids and families down there that have no idea when someone is going to launch a fly at them. ruthead Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Would that be similar to a family going to a shooting range and walking between the shooting benches and the targets? I know it's really not but it gets very discouraging having to constantly watch for the spectators especially the ones that let their kids play in the stream behind you. Or guide posts, gives me an idea where to place my back cast. I'm here to tell you if (unless I'm at the Spring Hole) I'm hitting the road with my back-cast in zone 1 I'm calling all my friends to watch. Keep your Booties on the road and there won't be a problem with me!! Great part about Zone 1 is it will separate the man from the boys with fly rods as a result of all the trees and people!! Just too bad that people don't understand "fishing" etiquette. upstream 1
brittsnbirds Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 I just thought of something NoLuck, since the guy that had a limb fall on his frigging head is suing the MDC; what if I hook someone's rug rat that is running around with no supervision? Hmmm, hope I didn't give anyone an idea.
