Members crappiekayaker Posted March 17, 2015 Members Posted March 17, 2015 Went last night, after work and only snagged a stick. I didn't see any spoonbills surface or jump the dam. Also, didn't see any dead ones in the trashcan. Has anyone snagged anything below the dam this year? Has anyone seen any in the water? I think it will be a few weeks before they make it up that way.
sms_alum Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I am by no means an expert in the area, but when I was down in Springfield they didn't seem to get up to the dam until very late season or after the season closed. Also the water had to be pretty high. I'm not sure of the conditions now since I'm in St. Louis, but I would think you are a little early still. Hope that helps.
Members crappiekayaker Posted March 17, 2015 Author Members Posted March 17, 2015 All the rain we received last week, I was hoping they would start the move. I think you might be right and it will be late in the season before they get up there. A few years back, conditions were great and on opening day they were stacked under the dam.
vonreed Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Jump the dam? I don't see that happening, but maybe I'm wrong. It's pretty rare that they make it up that far during season and the waters gotta be high for them to make it. There's some good holes maybe half way down that would hold some right now, but most will still be back down by Galena.
Members crappiekayaker Posted March 18, 2015 Author Members Posted March 18, 2015 "jump the dam" was a bad choice of words. I didn't mean actually jump the dam, what I meant was surfacing at the foot of the dam. Thanks for the response and info.
