Members Growler Posted January 22, 2007 Members Posted January 22, 2007 I agree with the cell phone irritation, but they have made it possible for many of us to get away to fish, conducting a little business on the way there & back. Also, in keeping with the spirit of Mikey's original question, I DO listen to music while driving to and from fishing, as I'm sure most of you do. My tastes do stray quite a bit, after spending almost 15 years in radio, I gained an appreciation for many different generes of music. Here goes an attempt at my faves while driving to fish. 1. Almost anything by Pat Metheney (jazz). My favorite album by him is American Garage. Plus, he's originally from Missouri. Just puts me in a good mood. 2. The Daredevils. Admit it, we all catch more fish after hearing their songs. Plus, they're really nice guys. 3. Death Cab for Cutie. My new favorite band. NO, It's not metal. 4. Classical. While not very knowledgable in this genre, I really like some of it. I tend to like less complicated pieces, lightly orchestrated. So, Mikey...what is on your soundtrack? G
Members Flextime Posted January 22, 2007 Members Posted January 22, 2007 Fishing the White this past October (Conclave) just upstream from Lilleys...someone was blasting the wedding processional music. (found out later they were practicing for a ceremony there later in the day). In-so-much as they only played it a couple times, actually found it amusing. Ever try to move your position on the water with the wedding procession playing and not do the "shuffle"?
Mikey Posted January 22, 2007 Author Posted January 22, 2007 Now I wasn't implying that one could drown out the natural soun ds surrounding them. Perhaps I needed to be more specific. In between getting to the hot spots, or on the way to the fishin' hole Sittin' around at camp and the like... As far as my sounds: I'm starting to dig on Jack Johnson. He's acoustical and mellow. I also LOVE the older Dave Matthews Band stuff And the occasional rock from say... Alice in Chains, White Zombie, and CCR. Tastes are kinda all over the place. As far as what's on my mp3 right now I have no idea. The wife took control of it. SHe wears it when she goes a walking so I'm afraid to ask what kind of nonsense she's corroded junk with. MIkey Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ I give her when she buys another purse... ..............................
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I don't doubt that there are people who need the cell phone for contact while they're fishing, fortunately there's a vibrating mode! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
hank franklin Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 There's no worse sound on the river than a radio playing even moderate volume. I will listen to country music around a campfire, as long as it's played real low. Anytime a radio is up loud enough to blot out the REAL souunds of the outdoors it's too loud.

And rates as one of the very rudest things imaginable to those seeking the solace of nature. It's in the same category as people deliberately crossing your line with their own cast. Both are anti-social behavior of the crudest sort. Okieflyfisher53 Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Mikey, I don't listen to anything but nature while fishing, but getting to the river and back are another story. It takes me 5 hours to get to Mountain Home and about 3 1/2 hours to Taney. A couple of tapes that are a permanent part of my road music are "Endangered Species" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and "A Piece of Your Soul" by Storyville. Other than those, it could be something by John Prine, Delbert McClinton, Watermelon Slim, etc. Steve
Randall Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 For my drive to wherever, i listen to country- i like the stuff from the early to mid '90s. cross canadian ragweed (ccr jr.) is good too. the nature thing is good and all, but i almost never fish with somebody else and i've been tempted to buy an ipod and load some good country on it for when i'm on a stream with nobody around all day. i can't believe nobody has mentioned talking to new people on here. thats one of my favorite things to do when i go to places like taney or a park. i totally agree with the cell phone comments. i carry mine for emergencies and will leave the water if i choose to answer it... of course the last time i answered the phone while fishing, my ex broke up with me. Cute animals taste better.
Leonard Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Im with you guys... I dont want to hear nothing on the water by the sounds of the outdoors... But If I had my choice.. the is 2 songs the would be fitting to hear on the water.. Brad Paisley- Redneck Yaught club and Brad Paisley- Im Gonna Miss her.... Now that a fishing song!! http://www.taneycomonights.com
crappiefisherman Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Im kinda gettin used to the sounds of a backhoe mounted rock breaker, or back up alarms, ordump truck jake breaks, or sirens, but I think the constant ringing in my ears is the sound that I like best.Any more colmness and solitude are achieved when I get the kids to play there race car game with the volumn turned down.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Truthfully the sound I love to hear is the squish squish sound of my wet creek shoes(old converse tennis) as they carry me down stream to my favorite fishing hole. And where do those little rocks come from anyway [ [
