Hello all.

Just wanted some tips on lake fishing for catfish ,I usually fish rivers but have move to Jasper Mo., and the lake is looking like a much closer place for me to fish on the weekend.

So any info like where is a good spot to start looking for them on Stockton??

I run a 17' sport troller for my rig so i should be okay unless there is some serious wind and waves lol.

About the mid may may to june they will start spawning. Rivers first then couple weeks on the lake. I fish the flats when the water warms a little more and drift from 6-12fow and use shad that i have caught or baught. Aldrich is a good place to drift flats and when they stat getting into pre spawn the rip rap under bridges is great with a cork with a number of diff. Baits. Leeche, worm, cooking shrimp, minnow, cut bait, ect. Right before dark along slab rock bluffs that are staged are good with a cork and minnow for cats and crappie.

Hope you get em! Good luck and good fishing!!

Thanks for the info.

I might give it a try this weekend if it does get to cold and the wind isn`t to bad.

Whats the biggest one you have caught in stockton ?

My Biggest so far was 48# flathead and 34# blue cat above chetopa on neosho river.

Ill tell you its hot in may after the crappie spawn the blues and flat head move up and gorge on crappie eggs before the spawn head up to highpoint area around the second week of may I use night crawlers about 3 foot down with a 4inch diameter Styrofoam bobber, this was may 15th last year.

nice catch.

I hope to be catching some of his brothers and sisters this year lol.

Does anyone have anything good to say about the area around greenfield ramp ?

when the baitfish are disrupting the surface, net a couple gallons in a bucket, and drift. Fail safe method for catching cats, I have never NOT caught a limit doing this.

Where is a good place to start looking for shad at the lake ?

Usually @ the rivers i find them easy but since i am newbie to the lake idea i am at a total loss.

Also i was thinking of getting a map chip for my humminbird does anyone have a favorite ? I am thinking Navionics but the $$ i feel is a little high for it. :secret-laugh:
