J-Doc Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I also had weak line experience with Vanish. One spool when it first came out. It was my last. I always use a barrel swivel with a quick snap on one end so I can change out baits. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Stump bumper Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I have to go with the copolymer myself, I fish with people that have no problems at all with Fluorocarbon and never loose fish. I am not as good at tying knots, not backlashing and not bending the leaders as they are as experience has shown me. Any fluorocarbon I use and I have tried almost all of them, has resulted in lost fish and lures being zinged across the lake. I have to back the Vanish being useless no matter what test, at my skill level it breaks even when casting. Also I refuse to run line that was in the lake through my mouth before tying a knot and never will, I will just buy different line.lol
Feathers and Fins Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I really don't get where the knot is the problem as anyone who fishes with me can see clearly I only use one knot and never had a problem with it. Improved Clinch! Now I do think people have their drags WAY to tight, I did it yesterday and lost a big fish but that was my fault not the line or knot, I set it down tight as I was getting crappie and small whites and a big girl decided to say HI. I fish for the Battle and tend to under power my line to let the fish get the advantage. But truth be what it is even the most inexperienced fisherman can land a big fish if the knot is tied right and if the line is good quality and if the drag is set right. Proof is last Sunday my wife put a 38lb fish to boat on 10lb line and she has no clue how to fight a fish, just listened to what I said and reeled it in. If you have a drag set so tight it breaks the knot you need to back off the drag. I know in tournaments you want them in fast to not stress them for the day in a live well and weigh in and releasing them in as good a shape as possible. But for the average Joe, Just set the drag right and you should be fine 99% of the time. If I was to recommend 5 lines for fishermen it would be 1. Seaguar Fluorocarbon Yellow Box 2. Yozuri Hybred 3. Ande tournament 4. Ande Pink 5. P-line Fluorocarbon I have used so many lines over the years but those 5 are the best I have used and in the order listed. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
M_Taylor Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 What's the difference between the yellow box and red box seaguar floro? I'm having a heck of a time with the red box stuff twisting. And this is fresh line doing it. Tried once having the machine out it on at HL&S and did it myself and both times fhe line started to twist in no time.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I never have figured out why it does that from the redbox but that is why I don't use it, to many issues myself and heard from others. I hot water my reels before I go and after I get home as well. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
M_Taylor Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Well I guess that's the last $20 I'll be putting towards that. I blamed everything but the line itself, but it's apparent there's something there to blame.
J-Doc Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 It's the Red label line man. I too used it. Now I just use 6-8lb Kline CCX or 10lb CCX. Stuff is wicked strong, lower memory and twists, and very smooth and abrasion resistant. Best part is, $10 a spool. Scott worked me over with it one morning. I switched to his rod and started catching fish. Never again...... Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! M_Taylor Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 This is great info. Always learn something on this forum. If only this discovery would have made itself clear literally hours beforehand I wouldn't have spoiled up those reels! Ugh.
J-Doc Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I fished Lake D'Arbonne LA today and yesterday. The abuse I put 6lb line to is shamefull. Just SHAMEFULL!! Cypress trees attract fishing line like the mosquitos to fresh meat. And the limbs and spring buds do not let go. I had to cut several small limbs to get my line free. Some hang ups too. Pulled for line to pop but it wouldn't. Tight end drag to max and pull back. Would just pull the boat closer. Had to go in and get the jig. Or it would snag weeds or coontail and not let go. Hold spool, pull back and it would bri g a plant to you. How's that for a plug on line? Love this stuff. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message.
