Nathan you could get a Motorguide wireless for around 550.00, the prices keep coming down and if that's out of the range just wait and save up for it. One of the best things I did was going wireless on the bow.

Transom trolling motor will steer the boat just like your main motor. Works fine except the odd time when avoiding a tree or rock that can only be seen at the front and needs a fast bow move.. Being from the north, we often use transom mounts especially for trolling and backtrolling is an art itself. Biggest problem is getting a transom mount with enough power to make sense for your boat. I don't know if there is a MG 24 volt transom mount. To my knowledge MK does not have a more powerful model than 55#s.

The main use of the electric trolling motor, right now, is for when I am pulling Alabama rigs for whites and live bait drifting for stripers. Both methods keep me in relatively deep and 'clean' water. So avoiding rocks and trees are not issues for me really.

My boat is 16', drafts very shallow (4" I think). The bow mount I have is only 30lb thrust and it pulls it fine, most of the time only staying on 2-3 speed depending on wind, maybe in high wind getting up to 4. I would think that it might take a bit more umph to push than pull, but 45-50 lbs should be fine.

I hear you. I will for sure, looks like next year though. I am seeing some transom mount motors going for well under $100 and figure it would be worth it for this summers fishing with live bait. I remember thinking about how I could make the experience easier on my last year.

I have used that setup for years. After a couple of failure with the foot control I swore off foot control.. I bught my present motor amd applied a handle I ordered from Down in Miss I think it. was. It allows full 360 degree control by jusy pushing pulling the alumanum handle. It ialso evtends to about 5 ft. Power comes through the floor button. I will never have anything else.
