Members sublimez Posted April 26, 2015 Members Posted April 26, 2015 Put in at 8am at the 3 Hills ramp and idled straight across to first cove and had a keeper crappie within 5 minutes and figured it was going to be an amazing day.. unfortunately for me though the only ended up with a handful of crappie and of bunch of largemouth.. As reported their were boats all over the coves, sometimes 8-9 deep and they would jump 10 feet in front or behind you if they thought you were catchin em. We picked up our crappie on 1/16"oz Jighead with black/chart grub in 7-10 fow. With the cooler days dropping the temps back down it made it harder for us to get on them.. though it looked like most of the other guys I saw catching them in the coves were catching them (none were really just slayin em) with minnows casted 2 foot under bobbers about 4 foot off the banks and jerked and reeled back to boat. Water temps in this area were from 58-60 and with not much luck yesterday and fighting with the crowds we trailered back up at 3pm. We have been fishing this area about the last week and it seems like 6:30 to 8:30 pm has been the best times to really get on the crappie for us plus a lot of the boat traffic is gone and we can relax and enjoy ourselves.. picked up some real nice walleyes out there over the past few days as well as 2 big ol carps which was super fun on 4 pound test! Most of the kept crappie were 11-13" females and all had still had eggs. This is my first report so I apologize for being all over the place, i'm still learning what I'm doing out there, and I'm grateful for everyone on this site who helps me out! -cheers! techo, slab slinger and Sac River Jim 3
slab slinger Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I thought you gave nice report. Good to hear some females still carrying eggs. Good info in your post if you know how to build a puzzle on crappie. I haven't been on the lake since opening day of Turkey season. Been busy taking family and friends hunting put the fishing on back burner till its over. I have enjoyed everyones posts keeping me in the loop on what the fishings been like. Sounds like i ain't missing out on a hot bite or anything but still would like to make it to the lake soon and try my luck on the crappie and eyes. After turk and mushroom season I'll be back out there with y'all chasing them. Keep reprots comming in and good luck to all ya.

Members redcatcher68 Posted April 27, 2015 Members Posted April 27, 2015 I thought that 3Hills ramp was concrete, or am I thinking of a different one?
Members Webfoot12 Posted April 27, 2015 Members Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks for the report sublimez. I'm hoping to get out soon. Need to make the best of my few days off so I think I might wait till this weekend even though I hate being out on the weekends...
zarraspook Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I thought that 3Hills ramp was concrete, or am I thinking of a different one? I have never used the ramp but, I have boated past it a couple of 100 times and all that I could see, out of the water, was gravel.... Members Fishn' Addict Posted April 27, 2015 Members Posted April 27, 2015 The access road is gravel but the ramp itself is concrete.
Members CadeWompus Posted April 27, 2015 Members Posted April 27, 2015 Thank you! Did not know about that ramp.
Sac River Jim Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 theres a courtesy dock there too but it is owned by the home owners association. just follow their rules and you won't have a problem. main thing is they ask that you angle park because its a fairly small parking lot. fyi when coming back out of three hills and you come up the steep grade to turn right if you have 4 wheel drive use it if not get a good run at it because the gravel is very loose.
